BlueLights

Empowering future generations to deliver
sustainable aquatic environments

BlueLightS is a Horizon Europe initiative focused on equipping European children and youth with the knowledge and skills needed to foster resilience and sustainability in our rivers and seas.

The project works in close collaboration with key initiatives like ProBleu, SHORE, PREP4BLUE, and the UN Ocean Decade, building a strong network for impactful ocean and water education across Europe.

THE OBJECTIVES

To develop a centralized knowledge hub that brings together blue education resources for all stakeholders in the education system
To build an interactive platform that fosters sharing, dialogue, and growth within the blue education community
To strengthen and expand a resilient network of Blue Schools across Europe
To pilot approaches for integrating blue education into national systems across nine European countries
To create a framework outlining the necessary conditions for integrating blue education into classrooms across Europe—ensuring that the responsibility lies with the education system, not just individual teachers
To leverage these opportunities to raise the visibility of blue education resources and promote their widespread adoption within the European education system
