By bringing ocean literacy beyond traditional educational settings and into municipal policies and planning strategies, BlueGOV empowers local authorities and coastal stakeholders to integrate ocean knowledge into decision-making processes.

Our Purpose
BlueGOV aims to strengthen ocean-conscious decision-making by fostering collaboration between research, training, local communities, and policymakers. The project brings together municipalities and other coastal stakeholders, including tourism organisations, environmental agencies, and marine conservation groups, to better understand local governance challenges, exchange experiences, and identify effective practices. Building on these insights, BlueGOV develops practical resources to help integrate ocean literacy into local policies and promote more sustainable approaches to coastal management and marine conservation.

Our objectives
Our Approach to Ocean Literacy and Sustainable Coastal Governance
BlueGOV will work across three pilot sites, each providing a real-world coastal setting in which to apply the project’s Ocean Literacy approach. These sites will connect ocean knowledge with local governance practices, allowing the project to explore how ocean literacy can be integrated into decision-making processes and coastal management strategies.
