Digital Sea School

A step forward into digital transformation on Sea Schools

The COVID-19 pandemic underscored and accelerated the need for digital transformation in education—especially for hands-on VET providers such as sea schools. While many partners have made initial strides in moving courses online, progress has been uncoordinated and halted, often due to limited time and digital expertise. To remain competitive and effective, sea schools must fully commit to comprehensive digital transformation in teaching and learning.

Our objectives

Our primary goal is to establish a cutting-edge digital education ecosystem within partner institutions. This will be achieved by:

Strengthening organisational capacity, training staff to develop and execute a robust digital transformation plan.
Empowering teachers to design innovative, tech-enhanced classroom experiences—such as AI, virtual tools, and blended learning—for maximum engagement .
Meeting learner expectations through user-centric digital tools, adaptive content, and flexible pathways tailored to diverse student profiles and digital inclusion .

The digitalisation and Sea Schools

Digitalisation refers to the integration of digital technologies and data into all aspects of society and the economy, fundamentally transforming how businesses operate and deliver value. In the maritime and training sectors—particularly in sea schools—digitalisation is reshaping business models, creating new opportunities, and enhancing operational efficiency.

Digitalisation brings significant benefits to sea schools by transforming traditional operations and expanding access to training. One major advantage is the use of digital conferencing tools, which allow sailing theory and even some practical courses to be delivered remotely
